Deep Linking

is nothing more than linking to an interior page of a website instead of the home page. It’s very easy to do with a standard link. You just point to the page you want to link to. Virtually every affiliate network supports deep linking in some manner, though not all merchants allow it.

Deep linking is also practiced outside the search engine context, so some participating in this debate question the relevance of the robots exclusion standard. The Robots Exclusion Standard do not automatically enforce its directives so it does not prevent search engines and others who do not follow polite conventions from deep linking.

As you know each weekday I post a daily digest of the best articles I’ve found that day on a topic that is of particular interest to website builders, buyers and sellers.

Here are the links to today’s best articles on deep linking:

Deep Linking: It Shouldn’t Be This Difficult
One feature that belongs in every affiliate program is deep linking. Deep linking is the capability to link directly to any page on a merchant site, typically by appending the merchant URL onto the end of an affiliate tracking link. Virtually every supports deep linking in some manner, though not all merchants allow it.

Traffic Driving – Deep Linking
Continuing on the topic of great tactics that will drive traffic, deep linking is one method that is easy to implement and has no additional financial impact to your organization. Deep linking is the practice of linking to other pages within your site that are “in context” to what the end-user is currently interested in. The Financial Content solution platform has a schema that is created so that individual content items can be selected using URLs. Here are a few examples.

Automated Deep Linking Part 1
It’s very smart to deep link instead of only linking to your homepage.  This not only helps your individual posts to rank better but it also helps your homepage overall.

Increase Your Search Engine Rankings By Deep Linking
Deep linking is an important strategy for getting your site’s pages (weblog or website) indexed, and for relevant search terms – which in turn is important if you want a site that earns income. If done properly, you can assign yourself some authority for search terms, provided your site already has gained some authority (either in PageRank or in SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages) rankings.

Deep Linking
Aside from the standard oldskool methods like: trackback pings, exchanges, paid placement, and blatant link dropping, here are the three main areas I focus on for getting my content deep linked on heavy juice sites.

  4. Completely agree that deep-linking can be an extremely effective search marketing strategy, although it’s also worth considering the benefits of sending users one step higher (category-linking).

All too often user engagement is overlooked in favour of raw conversion rate, so if your strategy is anything other than an optimised conversion funnel, it may be worth thinking outside the box when it comes to choosing the right landing page.
