Youtube marketing is an excellent way to get traffic onto your website. Youtube and other video websites are websites that allow internet users to make, upload, and share their videos with other internet users.

Many of the videos found on YouTube are homemade videos, made by everyday individuals. People like to be entertained while they learn and that is what a video will do. Video has quickly become one of those website features retailers have begun talking about. However, the challenge is producing a high quality video that is consistent with your brand image.

YouTube captures the marketer’s imagination: a huge number of eyeballs, a perfect medium for communicating messages of any length, and a user base that is nanoseconds away from your store. Indeed, it is this last piece that makes it so compelling for direct marketers, where TV ads historically prove problematic to traditional catalogers.

YouTube Marketing & Spam Concerns
I have many, many famous customers. Folks who’s names you know, who’s movies you’ve seen and music you’ve heard. Folks who’s comedy has probably amused you. These guys used friend adders because it’s simply IMPOSSIBLE to keep up with the load on their accounts by hand. They’d use Badder Adder to send event invites to their friends when they were in an area and doing a show, they’d comment the people who’d added them as friends with a “Thank You,” they’d use that auto-accept friend request feature to go accept the thousands of friend requests they received per day.

Gordon Brown answers questions on YouTube
A few weeks ago, I posted about a social media initiative from Downing Street: Ask the PM. The idea is great – anybody can video themselves asking a question, post it on YouTube for others to comment on and vote for. And then the most popular questions are answered by Gordon Brown and posted online. I was interested to see how this initiative was going to work in practice. The terms and conditions suggested that party political and other questions might not be allowed and I hoped that the experience wouldn’t result in simple and non-meaningful questions being asked. The results of the first wave of questions suggests this is not the case at all.

This is something I believe small businesses can and should be looking to, which is why it was one of the seven ideas I listed in my Social Media Marketing for Small Business article last month on Search Engine Land.

Now that YouTube is more popular than all the sites of the TV networks combined, you may wonder whether broadcast TV’s days are numbered. It may well become more important for your brand or company to be on YouTube than to be advertised on TV. Undoubtedly for some that day has already arrived. With Google having acquired YouTube, certainly it has a heck of a lot more resources at its disposal. You can bet that YouTube will be one of the major players in consumer-generated media for years to come.
