Yeah I have a forum about affiliate marketing…well long story short when the site was first put up I had about 30 to 50 new users within a month…thinking I was doing something, until I checked the IP addresses that the accounts were associated too: all of them were the same IP address and then I started to get random post about viagra, acai and weight loss programs…needless to say I made a few changes and now most of the members are legit.

Linkbuilding is indeed very necessary for traffic generation. But building links in .edu and .gov sites is also a challenge since they are very strict in approving comments. But it’s well worth it when your link is approved since almost all those sites have a high PR. Thanks for the other helpful references you included.
